We Are Becoming Physically Redundant - An Epidemic of Our Times
As many people get older they notice a decline in their physical functioning.
They usually believe it is because of the aging process.
But this is not so - it is not the passing years that are the problem it is because our modern world not longer has enough muscle building and maintaining activity and it is all down to disuse.
The aging process has been wrongly accused of being responsible for all over body weakness, stiff aching joints, weak inflexible muscles, poor circulation and poor health in general.
Our love of labor saving gadgets, household appliances, cars and technology means everything that requires even the slightest bit of human effort has been removed from our world to make it easier, more convenient and comfortable.
The human body is in grave danger of becoming redundant with nothing physically for it to do.
The decline in strength levels are nothing more than the result of decades of sedentary living that leads to a significant weakening of the human body.
This is backed up by research that shows that: •92 percent of people over 65 do not do any muscle strengthening activity and 66 percent are completely sedentary •most men and women over 65 would find it difficult to walk at a good pace (3mph) up a 1 in 20 slope •70 percent of women over 70 years cannot lift 10 pounds overhead one time •one third of men and half of women over 65 do not have sufficient body strength to lift themselves easily out of a chair without using their arms As our lives revolve more and more around an intellectual and technological perspective our physical awareness is declining and along with it, our health.
Most people have already become so detached from their physical body that they have distorted awareness of how active or inactive they really are.
A fitness survey in the United Kingdom revealed that many people assume that a hectic and busy lifestyle replaces the need for proper exercise and eight out of ten adults do not exercise at all The report also documented that 80 percent of people believe they do enough activity to keep strong and fit.
It is a big ask to manage body weight without proper exercise, and it is an even bigger ask to keep all body parts working well and pain free with proper exercise.
The granddaddy of them all is to expect to remain disease free without the activity the human body needs to stimulate the 'growth and repair' hormones that keep every cell tissue and organ healthy.
Without these youth hormones that cannot be released by any other method chemicals whisper to the cells and tissues decay, degenerate and die.
You now know what you need to do if you wish to remain healthy well and be able to fill your life with energy and strength no matter your age.
You need to get started on a proper exercise program that consists of mostly strength training exercise and never stop.
The older you become the more important it is to do this.
Somehow the tide has to turn away from constant excessive academic development or we will become separated from our most precious possession, our ability to function as the strong, fit and active human beings we are meant to be.
It starts and ends with each of us.
