Wudang Sword Tai Yi Daoist Form With Zhou, Xuan-Yun

I have watched a couple of Daoist monk Zhou, Xuan-Yun's DVDs now, and he is an extremely accomplished martial artist.
Watching him move is a pleasure, and it is obvious that he has spent many years training.
In this DVD, "Wudang Sword: Tai Yi Daoist Form," the Wudang Tai Yi Daoist sword sequence is presented.
The beginning introduction and history sections have a voice narrating, with Zhou, Xuan-Yun performing various forms in some very beautiful locations.
For those that appreciate China and the flowing movement of a sword form, it is a pleasure to watch.
It contains a brief introduction to Wudang sword and history.
The next sections cover information about the sword, selection and care, and etiquette and safety.
I really liked that the etiquette and safety was included because it is an important aspect that is sometimes neglected by non-serious martial artists that just want to grab someone's weapon and not treat is properly.
From there, the program covers grip, principles of Wudang sword, training drills that include stance drills and sword drills, a little about the sword form, demonstration of the sword form from the front and rear slow, a fast demonstration, instruction on the form, and finally martial applications from the form are shown.
In the short conclusion, Zhou, Xuan-Yun shares that the purpose to practice sword is for health and to better control your body and movements.
He then thanks his assistants.
The entire program is 100 minutes long, and the menu makes it easy to select the chapter you wish to review.
The package insert also contains the 67 steps to the form in Chinese and English.
The instruction is in Chinese with English subtitles, or you can choose to watch with an English translation voice over with English subtitles.
I really prefer when the instructor teaches to the camera, rather than voice overs.
Unfortunately for me, I don't understand Chinese, so I have to read the subtitles and listen to the English narration.
The Wudang Sword form is very different from the Korean and Japanese sword I am more familiar with.
Because of that, I personally watched the video for the history and to be exposed to the form and training, not so much that I will add this form to my existing training program.
However, for those that practice Chinese arts and want to learn this Wudang sword form, this DVD will be very valuable as you practice and learn.
I recommend it highly to those that wish to learn this form, and also recommend it to those, like me, who wish to learn more about this art and see it performed in some beautiful locations.
