Going Green Does Not Have to Be Expensive
You are probably as concerned about the environment and the legacy we are going to leave our children and grand children as the next guy, and may be you have also thought about doing something about it.
More likely than not, if you have not taken any concrete steps in this direction, it is probably because you are concerned about the expense.
And you are not alone.
As many who have visited an eco or earth friendly store will report, eco products are generally priced at a premium.
This was understandable at the time when the growth in demand for green products was much more than the growth in supply but today when there are so many green alternatives available the cost is bound to come down.
These products are also slowly becoming mainstream and as consumer demand continues to pick up, more choices will become available in the market place at better prices.
It is a bit like introducing a new electronic product or a new technology.
Initial pricing is invariably high but the products become cheaper as the product adoption picks up due to increasing economies of scale in the production and supply chain.
Same principles hold true for eco friendly products.
You should also consider the fact that today's large consumer products companies have invested a great deal of R&D and marketing in their current product portfolio.
Over time, these expenses get recouped with sales and every incremental unit of production is cheaper.
This means that they can afford to sell their products at lower prices now while the new breed eco conscious companies are just in the process of making these investments and therefore cannot realistically compete on price.
Bottom line is that even though the cost of going green may appear to be high today for a normal consumer, continued growth in this segment will drive the costs and the prices down to a more reasonable level.
But this will only happen if you and all of us make conscious effort to support green products.
And the fact that you are having a positive impact on our planet in the process and living a healthier lifestyle is just a cherry on the top!
