How to Build a Cottage Bathroom

    • 1). Pick your colors and they should be pastels. Cottage bathrooms usually feature soft colors like white, light green, light yellow and even pink. The intent is to create a feeling of "nature." You can also choose wallpaper with plant motifs.

    • 2). Choose your sink, toilet and tub. Cottage bathrooms often have large, claw-footed bathtubs, and oversized pedestal sinks. Another good choice is to put the sink inside a distressed wood cabinet.

    • 3). A hardwood floor is your best bet for a cottage-style bathroom. Antique, wide-planked flooring is available from any reputable woodworking store. If the planks have old nail holes, those are attributes and should not be covered up.

    • 4). Accessorize your cottage bathroom with towels that feature natural elements. Use towels that contain a winding ivy pattern, or colored leaves. Brass towel bars and light fixtures are good choices for country cottage bathrooms.

    • 5). Decorate your cottage bathroom with flowers and a folk art painting. Or buy a new floral art print and put it in a rustic, antique frame.
