Make Slip Covers for Pillows

    • 1). Measure the pillow that you want to cover and cut the fabric 1 1/2 inch wider than the pillow and two times plus 3 inches of the length.

    • 2). Fold the short sides of the fabric's raw edges over 1/4 inch twice, in order to encase the raw edge and keep the fabric from fraying. Do this with the wrong side of the fabric facing up. Sew the edges down with a straight stitch. If your fabric is particularly thick, fold over only once and use a zig-zag stitch along the raw edge.

    • 3). Lay the fabric down with the right side up and place the pillow you are covering in the center. Fold the top end of the fabric over the pillow so it covers more than half of the back of the pillow.

    • 4). Bring the bottom of the fabric up to overlap the top, leaving an opening in the center of the back of the pillow. Mark where you made the fold lines with straight pins.

    • 5). Take the pillow off the fabric, and pin the raw side edges down. Sew the sides together with a 1/2-inch seam.

    • 6). Cut the extra fabric from the corners on an angle so it doesn't bunch up when you turn the slip cover right-side-out. Be careful not to cut into your stitching.

    • 7). Turn the cover right-side-out and slip your pillow in through the opening in the back.
