Pour 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into your clean cast-iron kettle. Begin with a small amount of oil and add more if it's not enough, as all extra oil will be wiped away. - 2). Rub the vegetable oil into the inside surface of the cast-iron kettle using a clean cotton cloth. Wipe the oil around the bottom and sides of the kettle to ensure the entire interior surface is covered. Move to a clean portion of the cloth to soak up any excess oil sitting on the surface of the kettle.

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Set the kettle upside down on an aluminum pizza pan and bake the kettle in the oven for 30 to 60 minutes. The pizza pan serves to catch any oil that drains from the kettle during the baking process. - 4). Remove the cast-iron kettle from the oven using an oven mitt. Set the kettle on a hot pad and allow it to cool completely.
