Know How to Keep Books in Self Storage So That You Can Enjoy Them Forever!

Dogs and books are a man's best friend.
They not only give him invaluable company, but books feed his intellect and quench his eternal thirst for knowledge.
But books are also found irresistible by others too.
Like pests and rodents who find the taste of printed paper and boards delicious! Even then, there are times when you have no other option but to keep your best loved books in self storage.
In stead of spending sleepless nights pondering whether they are being dined upon by pests while in storage, why not take a bit of care and caution to ensure that the books are safe from pestilential attacks? The sight of moth-eaten books is a tragic sight which no book lover would like to witness.
Therefore take the right preventive steps while keeping books in self storage by following these simple and easy steps: •The first step of safe book keeping begins with the right kind of packing before they are stored.
They should be completely dry and clean.
If you get a musty smell when you open the books, it is better to put them out in the sun and keep them for a while in a well ventilated room.
The stink usually indicates a mold attack.
Before you start packing, dust off the dirt from the surfaces of the pages using a soft cloth duster or a handy tissue.
•Have you ever seen insect eggs? They look very similar to poppy seeds and when they attack books, these eggs appear as black spots.
Before putting the books in self storage, make sure that you brush off all these black spots.
•Packing of leather-bound books should be done by placing them side by side as they tend to stick to one another with the moisture and humidity present in the air.
The best solution is to wrap the books with 100% rag paper.
•The moving boxes that are used to pack the books should be sealed very tightly.
Though cheaper, it is best to avoid old and used cartons for keeping books in self storage.
Stack the books in an upright or flat condition, never on their spines.
•The spine and the fore pages of the books should be stacked alternatively.
Within the box, put the heavier books at the bottom followed by the lighter ones.
To allow some amount of air to circulate within the box, you should not put too many books inside one moving box.
•For retaining the original state of books in self storage, it is imperative that the storage space is free of moisture and dampness.
The best solution of course is when the storage unit is climate-controlled.
When the environment is damp or airless, mold spores germinate and insects find it conducive to lay eggs.
•Ensure that the cartons containing the books in self storage are never kept on the floor of the unit.
There are palettes or raised platforms available at every reputed storage unit, which must be used if you want your books to be enjoyed after bringing them out from storage.
