Guidelines for a Curved Shower Rod Installation

    • 1). Put the shower rod together. Since many different manufacturers make curved shower rods, follow the instructions included with the rod for proper assembly. Generally to put a curved shower rod together, though, simply slide one of the two individual pieces of the rod into the opening on the other rod or use the included hardware to put the parts of the rod together and hold the pieces in place.

    • 2). Hold a shower curtain up to the wall to determine how high the shower rod must be mounted to accommodate the length of the shower curtain. Allow at least 6 inches of the bottom of the shower curtain to hang into the bathtub and mark the wall at the front edge of one side of the shower enclosure at this height. Measure up from the top edge of the shower wall to this mark and note the distance. Move to the opposite side of the shower enclosure, measure the same distance up and mark the wall again.

    • 3). Measure 3 inches in from the marks that you made on both side walls above the shower enclosure. Make another mark on each wall at this point. Attach the brackets on the ends of the curved shower rod and hold the rod up with the brackets touching these new marks, 3 inches in from the front wall of the shower enclosure, to make sure the rod curves out no more than 2 to 3 inches beyond the edge of the bathtub. If the rod juts out too far, measure in an inch or two more on the wall to accommodate the curve of the rod.

    • 4). Attach a magnetic level to the top of the shower rod and make sure it sits level when you hold it up to the two marks on the wall. Adjust the height of the rod on one side as necessary to make it sit evenly. Mark the screw holes for each bracket of the shower rod on the wall.

    • 5). Remove the shower rod from the brackets again if the rod is detachable. Use steel screws to install the shower rod to the wall. If the wall above the shower is drywall, place an anchor on each screw to make sure the brackets hold in place.

    • 6). Reattach the shower rod on the brackets. At this point, you can hang your shower curtain or liner on the curved rod.
