This drug belongs to a group of medicines called bisphosphonates and works to alter the cycle of bone formation and breakdown in our body. This will not only generate effective results but also reduce the chances of untoward side effects.

This medicine is not for people who cannot sit upright or stand for at least 30 minutes. Since Actonel can cause serious problems in the stomach or esophagus, one needs to stay upright for at least 30 minutes after taking this medication. Certain other precautions while taking this medicine are:
Actonel should be taken first thing in the morning, at least half an hour before one eats or drinks anything.Each dose should be taken with a full glass of plain water and not mineral water.This drug is not suitable for people who are allergic to risedronate or have low levels of calcium in their blood.People who face problem in moving the muscles of the esophagus should not consume the tablet.Actonel is not recommended for treatment of patients who suffer from severe renal impairment.The recommended schedule of the medicine may vary from once daily or once weekly or twice in a month depending on an individual's medical condition.
