How to Lose Weight - And Keep It Off?

That is the question we all ask ourselves.
It is why we join gyms, try fad diets, go to boot camps, and buy gym equipment and DVD routines off infomercials.
It is why we make New Year's resolutions.
It is what we promise ourselves each and every year as the weight scale slowly goes up.
We put on a few pounds each year and don't seem to be able to take it all off as we exercise to get ready for summer and bikini season, so as the years pass we get heavier and fatter.
Let's take a look at where we typically fall down and see if we can do things differently this year.
Let us pretend it is January 1st.
We have more than likely put on a few pounds over the fall, especially over the holiday season.
We are frustrated at how we've done this to ourselves yet again for one more year.
Now we tell ourselves we want to lose weight fast and this time we are going to get back to our best body ever! Maybe we start a new exercise program and start eating healthy for a few weeks but slowly the desire to couch surf and eat poorly eats away at our motivation.
Pretty soon we are going whole weeks without exercise and are back to eating horribly.
Maybe we are going away to somewhere warm for a spring break.
The impending thought of being half-naked on the beach may gear us up for one month of hard workouts and good eating if we're lucky.
More likely we are going to try to starve ourselves and run ourselves ragged two weeks before leaving in the hopes that this will get our weight down.
If there is no holiday looming then any working out at all is likely not to happen.
Typically February, March and April are months of hibernation and bulking up.
The weather isn't all that great so we don't even feel like going for a walk.
As the summer nears we reluctantly get our butts in gear but by then we have more weight to lose than we can possibly lose in the time remaining.
By the time summer is in full swing the weekends are full of beers and barbeques and we are lucky to maintain our weight.
Then the fall comes and we put our summer clothes away and forget about working out until January 1st.
Sound familiar? Ask yourself a question; why do you choose to ignore the obvious, especially when it makes you feel so bad? Instead, what if you reminded yourself, each and every day just how much your hate putting on a bikini when you are feeling fat? What if you reminded yourself how much you hate shopping for jeans when it feels like everything you try on makes your butt look big? Do you think if you kept these thoughts in your head each day that you would miss your workouts? Do you think you would still eat horribly if you could keep the pang that fills your heart as you look at your body in the mirror just before heading out to the beach as raw and painful every day? Ask yourself a whole other set of questions; what if you began looking in the mirror each day and that body looked a little better week after week? What if shopping for clothes was fun again like when you were in your early twenties? What if you felt great about your appearance each and every day even when you were just walking down the street? If you asked yourself all these questions every day would you still skip exercising and eat all those greasy and sugary foods? Try an experiment this week.
Take a couple of pictures of yourself that you just can't stand.
Maybe that bikini shot from last summer or that picture of you in "those" jeans that just make you look fat.
Keep the bikini picture right on your dresser and look at it every morning.
Better still, keep another image on your fridge, just before you open up the fridge and cupboards looking for something quick to satisfy your hunger.
Make a promise that just today you're going to eat well and get your training done.
Also keep the jeans pic at work and do the same exercise as you leave to go home.
I guarantee you will find a way to get back to the body you want.
You will lose weight fast because you're really motivated.
Not for a couple of weeks here or there, but for months and months.
As you get fitter, leaner, and stronger you won't want to go back to that person you were before.
Your success will fuel your drive.
