Ignatius Piazza Calls Colorado Springs Church A Necessary, Unfortunate Example Of Gun Training
Ignatius Piazza, the founder and director of the nation's largest gun training school, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, expressed sorrow and extended his deepest sympathies to the citizens of Colorado Springs as they recover from the shooting which took place in what should be the most hallowed of places: a church. Despite the terribly unfortunate nature of the attack, Ignatius Piazza encourages all of America to realize the vital nature of the important aspect of the awful Colorado Springs church shooting: a private citizen with firearms training stopped the murder before it became a massacre.
Students of Front Sight and Ignatius Piazza know that why they receive firearms training is precisely what they wish to never encounter: a dangerous, or murderous individual wishing harm. Gun training is certainly not an act of peace or friendship. However, it is not an act of war, evil or hatred. In the opinion of Front Sight, Ignatius Piazza and students of firearms training everywhere, Jeanne Assam is an example of what gun training embodies.
Jeanne Assam is an average citizen who is a member of the New Life church. On Sunday, there was a shooting early in the morning several miles away from where the second shootings occurred, but because of those shootings, the New Life church which Jeanne Assam attends had beefed up its security. But instead of "hiring paid guns", they asked for parishioners who had received firearms training and certification to volunteer as security. Jeanne Assam, who had received gun training in her past and was state-certified to carry a pistol was one such volunteer.
When the man opened fire in the parking lot of New Life church in Colorado Springs, there were an estimated 7,000 people in or around the church. The shooter managed to kill two people and injured a third before Ms. Assam had time to respond and react. She rushed to the scene, and killed the shooter with her own, personal firearm before the man had made it fifty feet into the building.
Front Sight and Ignatius Piazza, though grieving for the lives lost that day, felt relief and a certain amount of measured pride that a student of firearms training had successfully saved lives. In fact, according to Senior Pastor Brady Boyd of New Life Church, "There could have been a great loss of life yesterday, and she (Jeanne Assam) probably saved 100 lives."
To take Pastor Boyd at his word, one woman, who - of her own personal initiative and desire - received firearms training to protect herself and her loved ones, and saved 100 lives. When her church requested the use of those abilities, she was able to respond, and she was personally responsible for saving the lives of 100 other souls.
Ignatius Piazza, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, Colorado Springs, New Life Church and all of America have become awed by the realization that if Jeanne Assam had not received the gun training she had, the dreadful murder which occurred Sunday would have easily become a massacre, but because of the firearms training Jeanne Assam received, 100 people will return home to their families who may not have otherwise.
