Naturism is the culture and acceptance of public nudity. It is practiced by thousands of people in the United States and, according to The Naturist Society, its members "come from all walks of life. Single people, families, retirees, teachers, construction workers, clerks, computer programmers, globe-trotters and homebodies." Naturist hotels allow guests to enjoy their accommodations in a clothing optional environment. - In the Movie District of Palm Springs, California, the Desert Sun Resort is, according to its website, "Home of the world's first Nude Bridge (some call it the "Naked Bridge in Palm Springs"). The 140-foot and 25-ton pedestrian crossing traverses Indian Canyon Drive, one of the busiest streets in Palm Springs. Oprah Winfrey had to see it for herself."
The Mediterranean-style resort has three pools, whirlpool spas, a tennis court, basketball hoop and barbecue pits. A spa offers wide-ranging therapeutic and beauty treatments.Room rates start at around $129 per night, as of 2010, and families with children are welcome.
