How to Mount Hitches on Vehicles
- 1). Lift the vehicle. Place wheel blocks behind the front tires of the vehicle to prevent the vehicle from rolling while you work on it. Place a jack under the rear frame of the vehicle and lift it into the air just enough that have room to move under it. Place jack stands under the rear frame of the vehicle for extra support.
- 2). Place bolts in the frame. Most vehicles already have holes in the frame for you to attach a hitch. If holes are not pre-drilled, use a drill to create holes. The holes must match the specifications on the instructions that came with your hitch kit. Drop the two bolts that are used to hold the hitch in place into the holes so they face downward through the frame.
- 3). Mount the hitch. Line the hitch up with the bolts that you just inserted and position the hitch. Insert the bolts into the hitch and attach the nuts. Tighten the nuts securely.
- 4). Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle. Remove the wheel blocks from behind the front tires.
