Influenza A & Its Symptoms

    Fever

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, the flu can cause sudden fevers over 101 F in adults and over 103 F in babies and children.

    Aches

    • The flu can cause moderate to severe headaches along with aches and soreness in the entire body, especially the arms, legs and back.

    Fatigue

    • Extreme tiredness and weakness caused by the flu can last for several days to a week or longer after other symptoms subside.

    Congestion

    • Influenza is a respiratory virus, and can cause symptoms of congestion, a runny or stuffy nose, and sore throats and coughing from mucus.

    Digestive

    • Loss of appetite is a symptom of flu in adults, and according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), children may also have vomiting or diarrhea when sick with the flu.

    Prevention/Solution

    • The best way to prevent getting influenza A is to get an annual flu shot or nasal spray flu vaccine. For pregnant women who get the flu shot, the embryo will receive protective antibodies through the umbilical cord, according to the CDC.

    Warning

    • Young children, pregnant women, immune-compromised people and the elderly are at higher risk of serious complications from the flu such as bacterial pneumonia, which may be life threatening.
