Shimal is a small village north of the city Ras al-Khaimah located on the windward side of the Hajar Mountains. Several tombs that predate Islam are located there along with a settlement that dates between mid-second to early first millennium B.C. This particular village contains no hotels. However, the larger city of Ras al-Khaimah, only five miles away, contains several. - The Banyan Tree Al Wadi is only two miles from Shimal. This hotel offers private villas rather than traditional rooms. The grounds feature a health club, spa, nature reserve and an activity center with activities for kids and adults alike. Villas are decorated in the tent style of the nomadic Bedouin tribes and include day-beds, sun lounges and personal pools. The hotel boasts two restaurants. One, Al Waha, is an Arabic restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The other, Saffron, is an authentic Thai restaurant, which is only open for dinner.
