How to Check the Status of a 2005 Tax Return

1). Contact the Internal Revenue Service at 800-829-1040. The telephone assistance line is available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
2). Listen to the greeting. Press "2" to access information about your personal income taxes.
3). Press "1" to hear information concerning a previously submitted 2005 tax return. Press "4" to hear additional menu options.
4). Enter your Social Security number when prompted. Press "1" to confirm you entered a Social Security number.
5). Listen to the menu options. Do not select any of the options. Your call will be redirected to an IRS representative. There may be a lengthy wait before your call is connected.
6). Inform the representative that you need to check on the status of your 2005 tax return. The representative will verify your account information before providing any information concerning the return. You will need to provide your name, filing status and address. The agent will provide you with the status of your return.
