GRE Exam: Review the Practical Considerations of Taking the Test
Where and when can you take the GRE? Is it offered year round? When is the best time to take it? When do most people take it? How much does it cost? Let's talk about some practical considerations you need to be aware of when you are ready to sign up for the test.
The GRE currently comes in two flavors:
You are able to take this test once per calendar month.
In order to do so, you must register with the local test center for the date on which you want to take the test, and you can do this online at GRE.
org.
Something important to be aware of is that thefall, especially from October to January, is the time of year when many people are trying to take the testin order to prepare for graduate school.
Know that during this time frame, you might need to schedule 6 weeks ahead to get your preferred date and time at the testing center.
The paper-based test is only offered 4 times per year, and in far fewer locations than the computer-based test.
The test also comes in a slightly different format: it contains more problems per section than the computer-based test.
For these reasons, we recommend that you simply plan on taking the computer-based test at a time that is convenient for you, preferably after 10-12 weeks of studying for the GRE.
The cost of the GRE is currently $160 dollars.
If for some reason you decide to reschedule your test anytime prior to 3 days before your test date, it will cost you $50 dollars in fees.
On the day of your test, you can send your score to up to 4 recipients at no charge.
You will need to designate them by code at the testing center.
In order to send your score to additional recipients, or designate the recipients at a later time, the cost will be $23 per recipient.
So make sure you know what schools you would like to receive your scores.
So, those are some of the practical considerations of taking the test.
