How to Make Custom Decorative Pillows
- 1). Wash, dry and iron your chosen fabric according to the manufacturer's care instructions.
- 2). Fold the fabric in half, with the right sides together (the patterned side or part that will show).
- 3). Measure the size and shape of your pillow, or simply free form your design. Add ¼ inch all around, and mark this using a fabric pencil.
- 4). Cut the shapes out.
- 5). Use straight pins to pin the fabric pieces together, with the right sides together.
- 6). With a sewing machine or needle and thread, sew the edges of the fabric pieces together, creating a ¼-inch seam. Leave a small opening on one side so that you can stuff the pillow.
- 7). Turn the pillow right side out, and stuff the inside with pillow stuffing.
- 8). With a needle and thread, hand stitch the stuffing opening closed.
- 9). Use a needle and thread, or fabric glue, to add desired embellishments, such as buttons and ribbon bows.
