Break Up Letters - 5 Tips For Writing One
Have you just broken up with your lover and want to say something to them? Maybe you want to write to them with the intention of winning back their heart? Communicating with your ex after a rough break up can be stressful, difficult and is prone to causing even more problems.
Consider these 5 tips before you write to them: 1.
Forget The Blame Game - Whatever you write about, don't start blaming your ex for past issues and problems.
Unless you're writing one of those mean, spiteful "I hate you" letters, keep it positive and don't bring up anything they're going to argue about.
If you want to win your ex back, or at least gain some favor with them, you have to be positive.
2.
Don't Make Threats - The last thing you should do if you want to have a happy relationship with someone is make it conditional.
Don't threaten to kill yourself, don't threaten harm to them or their future lovers.
Not only will this make your ex detest you, word will spread that you're a psycho.
Either way, why would you want to be in a relationship with someone who's only with you because they're scared you're going to harm yourself? Even if you are feeling suicidal, don't put them through a guilt trip.
It will only make them want to avoid you.
3.
It's Not A Love Letter - Don't write to profess your love to them.
If they already know you love them, then why keep telling them? If they want you back, you'll know.
If they don't want you back at the time they read your letter, you're only going to push them away further.
How would you feel towards one of your other ex's, whom you have no feelings for, if they wrote a letter pressuring you into a relationship again? You'll probably want to avoid them so that they can't do it again.
Same applies here.
4.
Keep It Short - If you keep your letter short, a few paragraphs at the most, it will be read.
If it's several pages long it'll just appear daunting.
Make sure your letter has a point, and get the point across.
If you want to meet with them, tell them that and let them know why.
If you keep it short enough, they might want to hear more and thus will write you back; which is what you want, isn't it? 5.
Be Sincere - Although you might want to please them and get in their good books, don't lie.
Don't say it was all your fault if it wasn't; you'll just look needy and weak.
It'll also look like you're just saying anything to get them back.
If it was your fault, there's no need to bring it up.
Just don't tell them lies or half-truths in an attempt to make them happy.
More often than not, they'll see right through it.
Remember; this is your chance to impress them! Don't blow it by pushing them away.
It's not a chance to show them how much of a suck up you can be.
It's a chance to show them that you can still be mature, confident and strong.
