How to Paint Brick for the Garden

    • 1). Wash the entire brick surface with a power washer. Set the pressure to 1500 psi and hold the nozzle at least 5 feet away from the surface as too much pressure can damage the bricks.

    • 2). Wait four days for the bricks to dry. Bricks are extremely porous so drying times can be long.

    • 3). Use the paint roller to apply a thin coat of primer over the brick. Be sure to use an exterior paint intended for masonry. Let the primer dry for 24 to 48 hours.

    • 4). Brush an exterior acrylic latex paint on the bricks with a paint roller. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours and then apply a second coat.

    • 5). Touch up any missed spots with a standard paintbrush.
