Limitations of Certain Types of Water Filters
Around Orange County and other parts of the state of California, water is one of the last things we can afford to waste. But when it comes to drinking water, we can't afford to waste it, our money, or our health. The Environmental Protection Agency currently only requires municipalities to test water for about 80 of more than 75,000 contaminants. If chlorine is your only worry, this may work. Most people don't even know what they need to filter out of their drinking water. Likewise, if you have a private well, your water isn't even tested by the municipality, basically leaving it to the homeowner to test their own water for many contaminants that could potentially cause harm in big enough numbers. Most people turn to water filters to get out those contaminants (known or unknown), but are they really choosing the right kind?
One popular type of water filter is a faucet-mount filter. Faucet-mount filters have many serious problems directly related to the original issue. On average, the filter in a faucet mount water filter will last around three months before it needs to be replaced. Likewise, most models do not remove bacteria and viruses from the water. There is also reduced vertical clearance in shallow sinks, slower water flow, they only filter one water outlet, and filter replacement over a long period of time can be quite expensive and a hassle. One water site even states that faucet water filters suffer certain fundamental weaknesses along with all other carbon faucet filters. The smallness of the filter limits the quality of filtering. They are good for improving the taste of tap water, but somewhat limited in insuring quality purifying of the water from many health affect contaminants. Another point-of-use water filter like a pitcher can be a good deal if it is minor filtering you are looking for. However, those too need replacing often where it makes it less affordable than you may have originally thought. You burn through those filters quickly,
Reverse osmosis is another common type of filter. The reverse osmosis process depends upon a semi-permeable membrane through which pressurized water is forced. Reverse osmosis is the opposite of the natural osmosis process of water. Osmosis is the name for the tendency of water to migrate from a weaker saline solution to a stronger saline solution, gradually equalizing the saline composition of each solution when a semi-permeable membrane separates the two solutions. In reverse osmosis, water is forced to move from a stronger saline solution to a weaker solution, again through a semi-permeable membrane. Traditional reverse osmosis, though, tends to waste a lot of water. Look for a more advanced reverse osmosis system which will save up to 90% more water than those traditional systems.
Other water filters are drinking water systems which provide great-tasting water with a micron sediment filter and a coconut shell carbon filter, adding dual power to removing unwanted contaminants and minerals. Find your home a new water filter that will reduce water waste, salt waste, and the waste of your healthy body through harmful contaminants in your home's drinking water.
