This small vase (3.75 inches tall) utilizes three different slips for decorative effect. The first slip is made from the same clay as the vase's body, and was applied to produce raised areas for textural interest. The second slip is a white slip, followed by a very dark brown slip. These two slips have been trailed to flow around and enhance the textures left by the first slip.
Also note that, although the vase is wheel-thrown, the rim is asymmetrical.
This was done deliberately to add interest to the form.
