Chic Baby Room Ideas

    • Give your little one a chic room to call his own.Baby image by Yvonne Bogdanski from Fotolia.com

Once you discover that you’re expecting, it’s time to start planning the nursery. Not only will the baby use this room, but you’ll also spend a good portion of your time there. You want a place that’s welcoming and warm and fits your personal taste. You also want a room that fits your child and will work in the future for other children, with just a few minor changes. A chic baby room includes decorations you can use long after your child starts walking.

    Vintage

    • The vintage nursery look relies on older pieces, as well as pieces that only look old. Purchase a new crib that’s made to look vintage, with carved or other decorations on the front. Be careful about using older cribs and other pieces of furniture, as they might not be safe for the baby. Use vintage bookshelves around the room and display antique toys, toys that belonged to you and your significant other, family photographs and books. Place a lined wicker basket near the baby bed and stock with extra blankets or toys. Find embroidered blankets or sheets and hang as curtains in the room. Add a handmade quilt as a decoration on one wall and hang vintage baby clothes along the other walls.

    Contemporary

    • The contemporary style relies on clean lines, bright colors and little decoration. Use the look in your own home by painting the walls a neutral shade, such as gray or white. Add baby furniture with minimal decoration and pieces that have a clean look. Use wood cube shelves along one wall and use cloth baskets or boxes inside each cube, to give you storage for baby clothes, toys and other accessories. Add a few splashes of color around the room, with brightly colored art prints and throw pillows. Finish off your new chic baby room with a few small rugs in a bright color.

    Modern Farm

    • The Design Dazzle website suggests a modern farm style. This baby room idea takes the traditional farm theme and tweaks it to become more chic. Start by painting the walls a light color, such as pink, yellow, blue or green. Add plain white cutouts of animals around the room, alternating with cutouts of barns, fences and tractors for an upscale border. Hang white wood or wicker baskets around the room for extra storage and use vintage-look furniture. Place one long shelf in the room and fill with antique or vintage-style animal figurines. Finish off with pillows, bedding and even a chair or ottoman in a small plaid print.
