How to Clean Armstrong Furnaces

    • 1). Pull the filter out from the side or bottom of the furnace. Vacuum with a small vacuum cleaner or attachment to remove as much dirt, lint, and debris as possible. Wash any remaining dirt or debris from the filter with warm water and a few drops of dish-washing liquid. Rinse the filter well, and allow it to air-dry completely before returning it to the furnace.

    • 2). Take filter grills off of the furnace, and clean with water and dish-washing liquid. Rinse the grills well and dry completely before returning them to the furnace.

    • 3). Open the furnace panels and look at the heating and cooling coils closely. Clean away any dirt or lint with a damp cloth. Check the vent terminals, and wipe clean with a damp cloth.

    • 4). Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of the furnace and remove any dust or lint. If grease is evident on the outside of the furnace, spray a household cleaner on a clean cloth, and wipe the furnace clean.
