Learning What to Eat Is the Key to Getting Rid Of Fat Stomach
Is getting rid of fat stomach proving to be more difficult than you had hoped? In today's fast-food (or fat-food) culture it is tough to make the right food choices, especially if you are trying to get and stay fit. Sometimes you might even think that you have made the healthiest choice at your favourite restaurant only to find out there were additional unexpected calories in your meal.
This does not mean that you have to stop eating at restaurants but it does mean that you have to become more aware of the calories that are hidden in some of your favourite foods. Here is an example from a favourite fast food joint that many Americans frequent.
Let's compare the McDonald's Quarter Pounder with Cheese against the Premium Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich. Just from their names, you would be lead to believe that the chicken would be the healthiest choice. In this case you would be wrong by over 20 calories with the grilled chicken sandwich coming in at over 530 calories and the Quarter Pounder weighing in at 510 calories. I know that this doesn't sound like a lot but it clearly shows that you can't just pick a sandwich by its name. Since most people only need 1500 -1800 calories in a day, one of these sandwiches (without a drink or fries) adds a third of your days total calorie intake. Many are unaware of this and can easily ingest one day of calories in a single meal. That is way I call it fat-food.
This doesn't mean you have to avoid eating at restaurants to lose weight although avoiding the fast food chains would go a long way to helping you reach your goals. Weight loss, including getting rid of fat stomach is all about moderation and understanding. First you need to understand what your body needs in the way of calories and nutrition so you can start making healthier food choices. Second of all, food in moderation as even healthy foods can pack on the pounds if you eat too much. These are very simple rules to losing weight but many will still struggle to lose that fat. The main reason is they tend to fall into the diet craze of quick/easy weight loss or are led to believe that pills, shakes, pre-packaged diet meals or special miracle weight loss foods will help them lose the weight. These options will not work for the majority of Americans and in many cases are not very safe.
What is proven to work the best, time and time again is learning how to eat healthy so you don't need to diet all of the time. Counting calories can help, if you have the time to track everything yet I never suggest that route. It all comes down to understanding what calories you need, what's in the foods you eat and making informed healthy food choices. Many of my clients had trouble understanding this as it can be difficult to grasp with all the different foods options available to you.
