How to 6-Pool in Starcraft 2
The 6-pool is a very old Zerg strategy that originated from StarCraft 1.
It is most effective on a map with a short rush distance as your initial zerglings will reach your opponent's base much earlier.
When you start the game, you have 6 drones.
Start mining with all of them right away and send your overlord to scout.
Once you get 200 minerals, build your spawning pool.
The position of this building will not cost you the game, but most players like to place it behind the minerals to prevent earlier scouts from seeing it.
While your spawning pool is building, build an addition 2 drones and only 2.
This will raise your supply to 7 out of 10.
This will help you acquire minerals faster and still leave you with 3 larvae and 3 supply to build your initial zerglings.
Before your spawning pool hatches, it is good to send out a drone to scout your opponents base and see what they are doing.
You can use this drone to harass and delay some important buildings such as a gateway or barracks.
As soon as your spawning pool hatches build 6 zerlings, making your supply 10 out of 10.
Set the rally point to your opponent's base so they can arrive there ASAP.
There is very likely going to be a scout at your base.
Ignore it and continue to the enemy's base.
Don't forget to build an overlord while your zerglings are on the way there to continue the production of zerglings.
Once you get there, use your zerglings to focus down the army production buildings such as barracks for Terran(the SCV building it is better) and the spawning pool for Zerg.
If you are facing a Protoss, kill the pylon to unpower the gateway, as the pylon has much less hp.
When the zerglings are attacking, micro them well and don't let your opponent get free kills on your zerglings.
During this whole time you should constantly produce more zerglings to finish off your opponent.
Remember, even if your initial 6 zerglings don't finish off the opponent, don't give up.
You will have delayed their mining and have them scared.
If you are able to stop them from producing an army, you will almost definitely win.
Just keep producing zerglings and slowly finish them off.
Practice this build against the computer or with a friend so you will be more familiar with it.
This build is not as effective on a map that has more than two spawn locations because it can take you a while before you find your opponent giving them lots of time to build their own army units.
