Medical Transcription Eligibility

    Role

    • The role of transcriptionist may fit you well if you are interested in medicine and have good listening and good typing skills, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. Seated at your computer with earphones on your head and your foot on a pedal to pause the process, you type audible information recorded by a physician.

    Entry-Level Certification

    • The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity grants an entry-level registered medical transcriptionist certification. Participants take classes in medical terminology and anatomy and practice transcribing. The coursework stresses the laws and standards of the health care industry.

    Advanced Certification

    • After a recommended two years of experience in transcribing acute-care medical information, a transcriptionist may take the Certified Medical Transcriptionist exam, explains the AHDI. The Medical Transcription Industry Association helps workers accumulate the required hours of practice by connecting employers offering on-the-job apprenticeship opportunities with certified individuals.
