Acne Myths And Facts

There's probably not a single subject or topic anywhere in the world that isn't subject to myths and mumbo-jumbo.
Acne is no exception.
You are very likely to hear a lot of misconceptions and lies about Acne, and there's always people who have to know best, even if it means making up facts to support their opinions.
Let me show and rip apart 4 of the myths I've been introduced to: Acne Myth #1(this one is hilarious) Acne can be caused by sexual inactivity.
Acne Fact #1 Acne and sexual activity are two separate issues.
What causes this misconception is the fact that teenagers and young adults often get acne as a result of the hormone levels changing.
Although these hormones do have effects on both skin conditions and sexual activity, they are not related.
Sexual activity does not have any effect on acne, and acne has no effect on sexual activity.
Acne Myth #2 People get acne because they're dirty Acne Fact #2 Sure, dirt causes clogged pores, but clogged pores isn't necessarily acne.
Acne can lead to clogged pores, but in that case the pores don't get clogged by dirt.
Acne is a result of several factors, including oil, skin cells and certain bacteria, and dirt is not one of those factors.
Sure, keeping your face clean helps preventing clogged pores and acne outbreaks, but dirt has no place in the equation.
You can get acne outbreaks no matter how well you clean yourself.
Dirt is not a factor in acne.
Acne Myth #3 Dermatologists cure acne Acne Fact #3 All dermatologists can TREAT your acne, but no dermatologist holds a secret cure that will defeat your acne on your first consultation.
Dermatologists help alleviate acne symptoms and clear up your pimples, black-heads and white-heads.
They can also prescribe lotions, creams, topical ointments and other solutions to help your skin condition, but no dermatologist will cure your acne through magic.
Acne Myth #4 Acne is only a simple skin problem Acne Fact #4 Sure, acne primarily affects the skin but it also affects the acne sufferers self perception.
Acne and the scarring it can leave behind can be a cause of depression and low self esteem.
Both these conditions can lead to deeper, more complex problems.
Acne patients need moral support the same way sufferers of other conditions need.
