How to Install a Cold Air Intake on a '92 Honda Accord

    • 1). Park the car on level ground, put it in park and set the emergency brake.

    • 2). Remove the negative cable from the battery terminal.

    • 3). Remove the intake air tube. Grab the breather hose in one hand, the intake tube in the other hand and disconnect them. Locate the vacuum line which is at the rear of the manifold chamber between the ABV (air boost valve) and the inlet tube. This will leave the port of the ABV exposed. Cover it with a foam filter cap.

    • 4). Disconnect the vacuum line that runs from the top of the throttle body to the intake-control solenoid valve vacuum tank. Use a rubber cap to cover the open port.

    • 5). Remove the air-filter case by unscrewing the two bolts. The air-filter case will pull right out. Remove the hose and install a plug.

    • 6). Unbolt the battery from the tray holder and remove it.

    • 7). Reach up from the wheel well under the the battery and take out the engine splash guard as well as the fender liner.

    • 8). Unbolt the screws securing the lower resonator assembly and remove the assembly.

    • 9). Using a grinder, enlarge the gap in the wheel well from 2.5 inches in diameter to three inches by five inches long. Sand any sharp metal edges to prevent damage to the intake.

    • 10

Test fit the piping of the intake to satisfy that it fits through the hole.

    • 11

Install two hose sections onto the inlet tube. Put two hose clamps both ends and tighten them with a screwdriver so they fit snugly.

    • 12

Slide the intake into the fender up through the wheel well and line it up the the mounting holes on the inside of the engine bay.

    • 13

Attach the air filter to the bottom end of the tube and secure it with a hose clamp.

    • 14

Connect the top end of the tube to the air inlet tube in the engine bay and securely tighten the hose clamp.

    • 15

Connect the breather tube to the cold air intake tube and tighten up all bolts and clamps.

    • 16

Install the splash guard back into the wheel well to protect the air-intake filter from any water spray off the road.
