Sirinat National Park on Phuket
One of Thailand’s smallest national parks sits on one of the country’s most valuable pieces of real estate in Phuket, a long, narrow strip of west-facing beach-front property that starts at the northern tip of the island and extends all the way down to just past the airport. The long stretch of coast has clear, warm water and soft, light sand and includes Mai Khao, Nai Thon, Nai Yang and Sai Kaeo beaches.
The smaller area within the park that’s completely protected from development has few attractions to see other than the coast itself, which curves gently and is backed primarily by local pine trees.
Attractions and Activities:
You can walk an elevated path over some mangrove forest in the northern part of the park, or stroll through small patches of terrestrial forest just behind the beach areas. If you’re swimming or snorkeling, there is a coral reef off of Nai Yang Beach. There are basic dormitory style national park accommodations, a handful of small canteens and bathroom and shower facilities, too. The rest of the national park area, though, does have some limited commercial development, including a few hotels and resorts, though it’s much less densely built up than on any other part of the west coast.
Staying at the Park:
The only way to stay right on the beach in Sirinat National Park is by pitching a tent and camping on Mai Khao or Nai Yang, just make sure to register with park officials first (it’s even possible to rent a tent and sleeping bags if you forgot yours).
You can also stay at one of the national park dormitories, which you can reserve in advance through Thailand's National Park Reservation System.
Other Accommodations:
There are also hotels and resorts a little bit inland from the park’s beaches, and they typically are just a very short walk to the water. The Phuket International Airport is adjacent to the southern part of the national park and its beaches, so expect to hear some noise depending on where you’re staying.
Facilities:
The national park has bathroom and shower facilities at the park’s headquarters at Nai Yang Beach. There is limited food available right in the park and vendors come during the day to sell snacks, drinks and fruit.
