Types

• Homeschooling families may choose from several different types of homeschooling. They may use a boxed curriculum, make their own curriculum, do unit studies or allow their children to learn naturally, called "unschooling."

• It is difficult to pinpoint the exact number of homeschoolers, because not all of them have to or choose to notify officials that they are homeschooling. It is estimated that there are between 900,000 and 2,000,000 homeschoolers, and the number grows each year.

• Some benefits to homeschooling include a low student to teacher ratio, individualized teaching, better access to religious education, interest-based learning and fewer incidences of bullying.
  
  

Laws

• The laws pertaining to homeschooling differ widely from state to state. In some states, such as Connecticut and Texas, no notification is necessary. In other states, such as North Dakota, homeschoolers must be tested regularly.
