How to Fix a Headboard to a Wall

    • 1). Measure the height and width of your headboard as well as the height and width of your bed. Draw a horizontal pencil line on the wall above the bed at a height equal to the height of the headboard. This places the bottom of the headboard one inch above the surface of the bed. Check the line to be sure it is level. Mark the center of the bed on the line with another light pencil mark.

    • 2). Divide the width of your headboard by two, and subtract one inch from this measurement. Measure and mark this distance from the center on each side of the pencil line.

    • 3). Place the top center of the wall half of a mounting clip at this point, with the hook pointing up. Stick the point of the pencil in each of the screw holes to mark their placements on the wall.

    • 4). Drill a hole for a screw anchor for each screw. Insert an anchor in each hole. Screw the mounting clip onto the wall.

    • 5). Hang the other half of the clip from the mounted half; measure the distance from the top of the clip on the wall to the top of the other half. Take this distance into account when you place the other side of the clip on the headboard.

    • 6). Place your headboard face-down on a protected surface. Add one inch to the distance you measured from the top of one clip to the top of the other. Draw a pencil line this distance down from the top on the back side of the headboard. Mark a point on this line one inch in from each side edge.

    • 7). Remove the loose halves of the clips from the wall and place them with their centers on the point you marked. Align the top of the clips with the pencil line. Mark the screw holes with a pencil.

    • 8). Drill a starter hole at each mark with a small drill bit. Screw the hooks onto the back of the headboard and hang the headboard on the wall.
