Technical education provides students with skills that they can use to secure gainful employment throughout their entire lives. Those with vocational training in a specialized field have a leg up on the unskilled. Furthermore, if you have a technical hobby, you can make your hobby into your career. A number of colleges throughout Iowa provide technical training. - Hamilton Technical College is composed of two different schools--the School of Allied Health and the School of Technology. The School of Allied Health has courses in medical assisting and medical and insurance coding, while the School of Technology offers courses in electronics. Hamilton Technical College is eligible for Title IV funding, and Financial Aid Services will help students find funding through Pell grants and federal direct loans. Textbooks are included with the cost of tuition.

The Industrial Technology Department includes training in agriculture, automotive repair, design, carpentry, electronics and welding. The Health Sciences Department offers training in dental hygiene, medical assisting, fire sciences, nursing and radiologic technology. The Transportation Technology Department offers training for semi-truck drivers, culminating in a commercial drivers license and relevant endorsements. Job placement is available for students over the age of 18.

iowacentral.edu - Southwestern Community College offers career-oriented technical training for more than 10,000 students in southwestern Iowa. The college offers training in the fields of automotive repair, carpentry, computer networking, graphic design, nursing, welding, web design and structural drafting. Southwestern's Financial Aid Office helps students find ways to pay for their tuition, be that scholarships, grants or federal student aid.

In contrast to most community and technical colleges, Western Iowa Tech offers housing options for its students. The college offers courses in different computer fields (including networking and forensics), automotive technologies (including painting, electronics and drive train as well as body repair and finishing), welding, wind turbine maintenance and machining. Students can pursue certificates, diplomas and associate degrees.

Students have the option of studying automotive programs, computer-aided drafting and design, carpentry, diesel mechanics, industrial electronics, welding and wind turbine.
