5 Language Tips for Travelling to a Foreign Country

Learning a language can be a daunting thought for many individuals.
If you are planning a visit to a foreign country, it is highly recommended you learn some of the language before leaving.
Depending on the country, it may be necessary to know several key phrases, or possibly much more.
The important thing is to at least make an effort.
Whether you learn several phrases or take intensive classes before you go, the locals will be thrilled with your efforts.
There are several important things to take note of when travelling to a non-English speaking country: #1.
Familiarize yourself with the language with a phrase book several months before your trip.
Flip through it while riding public transportation or just watching television.
You'll be surprised at how many words you recognize when you get to your destination.
#2.
Learn how to order food in a restaurant.
The best local restaurants are off the beaten trail and may not be English-speaking.
If you don't want to go as far as this, learn how to say a few of the local menu items.
#3.
Learn how to pronounce words correctly in the new language.
Listen to the sounds and do not assume they are pronounced like English letters.
#4.
If possible, learn how to tell a joke in the local language.
You will be amazed at the response, whether it's actually funny or not.
#5.
Lastly, make an effort to use the words you learned.
Locals for the most part, depending on the country of course, will be more than willing to converse with a foreigner.
The time and effort you put into learning a new language before visiting the country will enhance your experience proportionately.
The best a country has to offer is hidden behind the tourist centers and English speaking establishments.
