Fusionbrands® PoachPod® Stainless, PoachPod® Lift, CrackPot™ Reviews

About.com Rating

While on the hunt for easy-to-use and clean egg poaching tools, I spied the PoachPod® Stainless. I liked the original silicone PoachPod - read review, so I was anxious to see how the stainless model would compare performance-wise. Add a couple of optional accessories and it was an interesting test period. Three Fusionbrands® products were tested.

Compared to the original PoachPod®, the stainless pods have more stability when it comes to handling and transferring the egg to the plate. We greased the interior lightly before adding the egg. The pod cooks the egg well and contains it neatly, so there's no fraying or (egg) loss. They are easy to remove from the pan either by the nonslip finger grips or the optional PoachPod lift. Keeping the pot covered during cooking speeds up the poaching process.

Of all the poaching tools we have used including pots designed with a poaching tray, we like these PoachPod® Stainless the best. The poached egg is much neater, it's easy to drain off water and the egg slides off easily unto the toast or plate. These are also the easiest and quickest to clean.

They are definitely our favorite egg poaching tools; we highly recommend them. Storing is easy - they stack and take little room on a shelf or in a drawer.

This is an easy to use and store plastic tool that is an optional accessory to the PoachPod. It does work great and though not really essential because you can remove the pods from the pot of hot water by the little finger grips, I would strongly recommend it if teens are going to be using the PoachPod® egg poaching tool. It helps to reduce the risk of injury.

While you do not really need a special bowl to break an egg, the more I used this CrackPot™, the more I liked it. I was surprised at the size - it's larger than I thought it would be, but I have found it to be more versatile this way.

First off, it's a great teaching tool for children to learn to crack an egg without getting shell pieces in food. I was a little skeptical when there was no visible spout for pouring and I expected that to be a problem, but the cracking edge is so designed that the egg migrates right to that area when the bowl is tilted for a clean pour.

The bowl has a nonslip base that keeps it well in place and has enough weight to it that you can have a whisk sitting in it without fear of it tipping over. There's a comfortable grip and the size proved ideal for baking prep, blending/whisking eggs with sugar and such. It's also handy for mixing an omelet or pancake batter. You'll find a myriad of uses for it other than for eggs and it will nest in a large bowl to store.
More About Kitchenware

While you might think that kitchen gadgets such as egg poaching products are not really essential - you can just gently drop eggs in hot water, there's less waste, fuss and clean-up when you use the right tools. With frustration and time saved, breakfast is quicker and that can make for a relaxing start to your day.

We've tried several egg poaching tools and while there are good designs that cook the egg well, some take several minutes to clean the products after use. And that can take the fun out of using a kitchen gadget that should be saving you time. Compared to an electric egg cooker, PoachPod® poaching tools are easier to clean, require little storage space and are very affordable. They also make an excellent gift for the egg lover.
