Definition:

A "private course" is a golf course that is open to members only. Country clubs are private golf courses - you must join the club to have full access to the golf course.

Most private golf courses, however, do allow non-members to play as guests of members.

The cost to join a private golf course varies widely and can be more affordable than you might guess. But at the other end of the scale, the most private and luxurious of private golf courses can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to join.
