Did the GOP Over Do it With the Vocal Religious Right?
Many Republicans said they voted for Junior Senator Obama, or not at all in the last Presidential Election because they were upset with the Vice Presidential choice and the hard stance on abortion.
In fact, one individual who chose that path, lamented to me recently; "I think some of us had trouble identifying with the GOP via the vocal religious right, I know I did.
In fact, I was turned off by the campaign tactics used.
" There are indeed a lot of "one issue" voters and I agree with this very much on this point of contention; I do believe, that although Sarah Palin energized the party's base, which is often thought to be the Christian right, they inevitably alienated all the crossover voters, as well as independents that might've moved toward the GOP.
Still, I do not think that President Obama, who leaned far-left is what's right for America.
Many Republicans or right leaning folks were quite shocked at all the independents that voted for him.
Not long ago another independent told me; "He's clearly not qualified to be president, he's not smart enough, he has no real experience, and quite frankly I'd like to vote for someone who's actually smarter than I am and has also run a business sometime in their life.
" In fact, many Solid Republicans who chose not to vote this go around, have stated such things as; "Being a community protest organizer doesn't impress me much.
Anyone can organize a protest you just get a group of friends and a TV camera and hold up signs and act like a bunch of jerks.
Anyone can do that, we live in a free country, hell, it's even legal, and many people see it as the ultimate in freedom! But knowing you can and then doing it can be two different things sometimes?" Still, in studying some of these points and comments, I have met many women who did not vote for John McCain because of Sarah Palin and her stance on abortion.
I do not see this as a good enough reason to vote for a socialist, but it was a major consideration with many women voters who say they don't want Federal Laws on their bodies.
Being a man the abortion issue is of less of interest to me, but I see with Christian voters it is a big issue of theirs, and for pro-choice folks I totally see their point too.
I am personally against the disgusting practice of partial birth abortions and very late term abortions, well, that's getting a little more than I'd even like to talk about.
All these will continue to be issues in the next Presidential Election go around.
