How to Send a Car to Europe
- 1). To find a company that will send your car overseas, start with an Internet search. United Auto Transport charges $700 to $2,000 in 2010 to ship your car. The cost depends on the type and weight of the vehicle. United Auto Transport has ports in San Francisco and New York City, Baltimore and Charleston, South Carolina. You will have to drive your car to the nearest port the company ships from; if you do not live near a port city, the drive can be long and the cost can be substantial.
- 2). Buy shipping insurance for your car. Shipping insurance is required and costs $400 to $600 in 2010. Taking additional precautions, such as removing all unnecessary items from your car's interior, is one way to ensure your car arrives at its destination intact. If you are worried about dirt or debris damaging your car's exterior en route, consider requesting an enclosed container to protect it from the elements.
- 3). Fill out the necessary paperwork for the transport. You will need to to obtain and file a Shipper Export Declaration and a Declaration of Dangerous Goods. Both of these forms should be available from the company you choose to ship your car.
- 4). Take your car to the loading area of the U.S. port you are shipping from. Cars can be picked up at ports in France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Belgium, among others.
