How to Reverse Premature Aging With Chemical Peels

How to Reverse Premature Aging With Chemical Peels

    • 1). Study your skin carefully. What kind of damage do you need to reverse? Do you have only light surface wrinkles? Do you have dark spots or major sun damage? The type of damage you have on your skin will determine the type of chemical peel you need.

    • 2). Decide on whether an at-home, do-it-yourself treatment or a treatment performed by a dermatologist is right for you. Treatments at home cost less but are milder than a doctor's chemical peel. Both will reverse aging but the at-home peel will not have long-lasting effects or reach deeper skin tissues.

    • 3). Choose the type of peel that is appropriate for you. There are a variety of chemical peels such as phenol peels, trichloroacetic acid peels, glycolic acid and alpha hydroxyl acid peels. Phenol peels and trichloroacetic acid peels are found more in doctors' offices and provide a deeper resurfacing of your skin. Gycolic and alpha hydroxyl acid peels are found more in at-home peels, offer a much milder peel and won't penetrate deep into your skin. Those provide a general rejuvenation of your skin.

    • 4). Treat your skin where the peel will go with moisturizing or conditioning cream. This prepares the skin for the chemical peel. It will remove any excess oil or foreign agents on the skin.

    • 5). Apply the chemical peel to the designated damaged skin area. This step will either be performed by you or a doctor, depending on the type of peel chosen.
