Antibiotics for Acne - Can This Combination Be Your Answer to Acne Free Skin?

Acanya Gel and Benzaclin are relatively new once or twice daily topical (on the skin) antibiotics for acne vulgaris, for people 12 and over.
They consist of a combination of clindamycin phosphate 1-1.
2% and benzoyl peroxide 2.
5-5%.
Clindamycin phosphate is an antibiotic known to kill the bacteria that causes acne (Propionibacterium Acnes).
Benzoyl peroxide is a peeling agent that helps increase skin cell turnover to clear your pores.
It also kills Propionibacterium Acnes.
These medicines were tested in clinical trials on thousands of subjects with moderate to severe acne vulgaris, showing themselves to be effective as acne treatment.
They are FDA approved combination antibiotic and benzoyl peroxide medications used once or twice daily for both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne.
Acanya Gel and Benzaclin, in clinical trials, were shown to be superior to each ingredient alone and were tolerated well by patients.
Almost all patients found a significant improvement in their acne.
They also were found to have high patient satisfaction scores.
Bacterial resistance (a big concern these days), was not found to happen with clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide.
The main side effects with these treatments were pain, exfoliation and irritation at the application site.
They were found in only a small percentage of the patients in the trials.
