Do-It-Yourself Leaky Seam Repair for Canvas Awnings & Tents
- 1). Set up your tent in the yard or in a park on a sunny day. Place the tent somewhere you can leave it alone for at least 24 hours without removing it.
- 2). Open the seam sealer tube and squeeze the body of the tube until the sealer begins to come into the tip. Go inside the tent.
- 3). Run the seam sealer tube along the seam that connects the floor of the tent with the walls. Draw on the stitching as if you were coloring it with a marker. Seal the top of the seam all around the edge of the tent, then go around again and do it underneath the folds at the seam.
- 4). Go outside the tent and use the sealer on the seams at the corners that connect to the tie-down stakes. Cover the seams completely with the sealer by using a generous amount.
- 5). Climb a ladder set next to the tent to get easier access to the top of the tent. Run the sealer on top and underneath the folds on all the seams on top of the tent. Include all the corners and spots where stakes poke through.
- 6). Dry the seam sealer by leaving the tent standing for 24 hours. Test the seal after that time by spraying the tent with a hose or sprinkler. Allow the tent to dry again, then pack it away until vacation time.
