Old Fashioned Remedies for Removing Blackheads
- According to the American Academy of Dermatologists, popping and squeezing any acne, including blackheads, makes them worse and last longer and may lead to permanent scarring. You are better off working on a preventative treatment that will have a longer-term impact. Patience and persistence are key to an effective blackhead remedy.
- Twice daily, clean your skin with a mild cleanser in order to control and prevent further blackhead breakouts. Avoiding harsh scrubbing while cleansing, which will irritate your skin. Instead, use your fingers to gently apply the cleaning product. Additionally, don't use abrasive soap, facial scrub, toner, astringent or masks, as they can also irritate your skin. Any skin irritation can further worsen the acne.
- Because sweat can irritate your skin, avoid worsening your blackhead-prone condition by washing with water soon after sweating. So after you return from the gym, take a quick shower before going to bed or starting a new activity.
- If you are prone to any kind of acne, oil-based hair and skincare products may worsen your condition by clogging pores. Look for products that are labeled "oil free," "nonacnegenic," or "noncomedogenic." It will save your face from further blackhead breakouts and lead to clearer skin.
- If the above home remedies are not effective, your next most convenient option is an over-the-counter acne treatment applied at least five minutes after washing. If after six to eight weeks that treatment is still not effective, consider making an appointment with a dermatologist, who will examine you, diagnose your condition, and may prescribe acne medication to help you overcome your blackheads, which may also take some time to see results.
