About the Show:

Abstract Expressionist New York will display the chronological development of Abstract Expressionism (a.k.a. "The New York School") from its Post-War inception in the 1940s to its maturity in the 1960s. Now, I ask you. What better venue than The Museum of Modern Art, located in this movement's birthplace and holding an enormous collection of works from its artists, in which to hold such a show?

Abstract Expressionist New York will include nearly 300 works from 30 artists, reinstalled over the entire 4th Floor painting and sculpture galleries and the collection galleries for drawings and prints. Additionally (scholar alert), documentary materials from The Museum's archives will accompany the art. Abstract Expressionist New York will mark the first time in over 40 years that the AbEx artists have "hung together" at MoMA, so to speak. Pollock, de Kooning, Gorky, Hoffman, Newman, Krasner, Frankenthaler and Motherwell aficionados will not want to miss this exhibition.
