How to Repair Track Lighting Flicker
- 1). Unlock and then relock the switch that holds the light in the track. These locking mechanisms can get loose, causing a flicker. Relocking them will secure the connection if this is the issue.
- 2). Remove the lights. First, turn the power off to the fixture by either unplugging it or turning off the circuit breaker.
- 3). Take all lights out of the track. Unlock each individual light and slide it out of the track. Put the lights aside.
- 4). Dust the track. Dust and dirt can build up in the track, especially in a kitchen. Use a stiff, bristled paintbrush to dust out the track. If it still appears dirty, a damp sponge can be used to wash the track out. Do not let water puddle in the track. Use a damp sponge only.
- 5). Inspect the contact prongs on the lights. Wipe them down if dirty. If any prongs have become bent, use a screwdriver to bend them back into shape. If they are bent too much then you may need to replace the light.
- 6). Reattach the lights to the track, being sure that the locking mechanisms are fully engaged. Turn the power back on and test the track lighting.
