Here are the Golfers Who"ve Double-Eagled in The Masters

There have been only four double eagles in the history of The Masters. And each one of them occurred on a different hole. We list them in chronological order:

Gene Sarazen, 15th hole, 1935
This is by far the most famous dougle eagle at The Masters, and not just because it was the first. It's one of the most famous shots in golf history.

In the final round of the 1935 Masters, Gene Sarazen reached the 15th hole trailing leader Craig Wood by three strokes.

After a good drive, Sarazen found himself with 235 yards to a green fronted by water. He pulled a 4-wood a let it rip. The ball hit the front of the green, bounded toward the hole and dropped into the cup. He made up three strokes with one swing of the club.

Sarazen and Wood finished 72 holes tied, then played a 36-hole playoff. Sarazen won. Sarazen's double eagle is the only one by a winner of the tournament.

Bruce Devlin, 8th hole, 1967
It was 32 years after Sarazen that the second-ever double eagle finally happened at The Masters. Devlin holed a 4-wood (same club that Sarazen used) from 248 yards during the first round. Despite the albatross, Devlin scored only a 74. He wound up tying for 10th place.

Jeff Maggert, 13th hole, 1994
Maggert's double eagle happened during the fourth round. He hit a 3-iron from 222 yards. It was a rare bright spot during this tournament for Maggert: He shot 75 for the round and finished in last place among golfers who made the cut.

Louis Oosthuizen, 2nd hole, 2012
Oosthuizen's albatross is the longest so far at The Masters, 253 yards.

The shot happened during the final round, and Oosthuizen hit 4-iron. The ball bounced onto the front part of the very deep green, trundled forward, caught a slope and curved right to the flagstick.

Oosthuizen came close to joining Sarazen as a Masters winner who double-eagled during his victory. He shot 69 for the round and tied Bubba Watson, but Watson won the playoff.
