Basement Rec Room Paint Ideas

When it becomes time to redecorate a basement rec room, your options may seem limited because of uninspired walls. Don't fear: Basement walls are often your best opportunity to express creativity in your painting, especially if lack of windows gives you an open canvas. It is also one of the easiest rooms to redo when you want to try a new theme. - Pay homage to your favorite sports team by painting your basement in team colors. Start with the lighter of the colors to use as your base coat, or use a white or light gray base coat, as basements are already generally fairly dark. Using a projector and a transparent sheet of a team logo, project the image to the size you want it on a blank wall. Paint in the logo and let it dry. Watch a game with renewed team spirit. This type of treatment works well for rec rooms used for game rooms, family rooms and bedrooms.
- If you're using your rec room as a toy room, use the blank walls to create a fairytale background. Use pages of your child's favorite story book as inspiration. If you are already an artist, you may be able to freehand it, otherwise, copy transparent sheets of the pages and use a projector to put outlines of the image on the wall. Start with the background first, such as grass, sky and trees, and then add in the main characters. If you are covering multiple walls, you can either use each as a different page, or create a panoramic view of the same scene.
- If your basement has concrete block walls, you can use them as a design guide. To do a grid design, paint all the walls your base color. Next, take a thin paintbrush, and paint the mortared lines separating the blocks a darker color. You could also create a tile mosaic by painting each block one of three different colors, or alternate blocks with two different colors for a checkerboard pattern.
