Interactive Whiteboard Tips

    Drag and Move Objects

    • Moving objects is easy with the interactive whiteboard. To move an object, simply click once on the object and hold the button down, click on the new location of the object and let go of the original finger holding the object in place. Watch the object fly across the screen to the newly chosen location. This method is good for teaching math equations or an interactive game of fill-in-the-blanks.

    Integrate Google Earth

    • Google Earth is a great tool for teaching geography and cultural studies. It can also be a beneficial tool for teaching fine arts--you may be able to show a specific statue that is publicly displayed in a certain town or city. Installing Google Earth can lead to interactive trips around the world, including visiting wonders of the world and taking 3D tours around famous cities.

    Incorporate Google Street Maps

    • In continuation of Google Earth, Google Map Street View is also an interesting idea for interactive classroom learning. Use this tool to take local field trips while remaining in the classroom or just use it for math learning. For example, have students calculate the distance between the local grocery store and the local movie theatre. Because these are local businesses that the student can recognize, she may be more eager to calculate the distance and will likely understand the lesson better.

    Use the Classroom Wii

    • Nintendo Wii games are often social and can therefore be used to teach students in classroom settings. Games like Big Brain Academy are played in pairs and so allow for more players. The games allow for team-work, problem solving and adventures that add up to teach children valuable academic lessons. The Nintendo Wii is a great tool for a classroom with students who get bored easily.

    Link Videos

    • Add videos links into a lecture about animals or sciences. This will keep children focused, as watching a video is more appealing to children than paying attention to one teacher. To add videos, download a video clip to My Videos on the computer. Find academically relevant videos on BBC or National Geographic, for example. Add the video to the whiteboard by adding the file via SMART.
