How to Choose a Caregiver for Pets
- 1). First try going the personal route with a friend or family member. They are usually more familiar with your pet, and your pet would probably be more at home and at ease with them.
- 2). If a friend or family member is not available, check with your veterinarian, who more than likely can offer personal recommendations. In fact, most vet office will have brochures, so it's best to start there. Your vet knows your pet so she can help you decide what would be best for him.
- 3). If you chose to go with a boarding kennel be sure to tour the facilities before hand. See how clean the kennel is. How friendly is the staff? Would they be willing to accommodate your pet's special needs. What is the feeding and exercise schedule?
- 4). Also check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the kennel has had any complaints filed against it. What is its reputation like?
- 5). If you choose an in-home pet sitter, be sure to check his references as well as do a background check. Remember extreme caution needs to be taken when letting someone into your home.
- 6). Arrange a meeting between your pet and the sitter to see how it goes. Do they like each other? Does your pet seem comfortable?
- 7). Finally always leave your pet's vaccination information, your vet contact and a number in case of emergency with whomever takes care of your animal.
