How to Turn a Nail Copper With Pennies

    • 1). Pour a 1/4 cup of vinegar and one teaspoon of salt into a bowl.

    • 2). Stir the solution until all of the salt has dissolved into the vinegar.

    • 3). Place all twenty pennies into the vinegar and allow them to sit for five minutes.

    • 4). Remove all of the pennies from the solution. Notice that if you rinse them under water they will become shiny, almost brand new looking. this is because a small amount of the copper surface has been stripped away by the solution.

    • 5). Place 2 steel nails into the solution and allow them to sit for one hour. This will negatively charge the nails which will attract the positively charged copper ions in the water to them.

    • 6). Remove the nails from the solution. They will now have a light copper coating on their surface.
