Hi, I'm Jimmy Chang and we're here to talk about the definition of an unreal number. Now when it comes to mathematics instead of talking about unreal numbers, well those numbers are actually known as complex numbers. Now, complex numbers use what we call a real part and an imaginary part. So here's an illustration. Complex numbers typically are of the form A BI, sometimes A- BI but the A is known as the real part okay, and yes, there is an imaginary part as well and that's where the BI comes in. The BI is known as the imaginary part of the complex number. Now you may be thinking about okay well what's an imaginary number do, I mean you can't really see it. Well you can't really see it but it's actually used in several areas, not just in mathematics but also in the physics and engineering areas. They basically address things that even though you can't see they are actually at work in terms of the applications. So when it comes to unreal numbers we actually call them complex numbers and this is the actual form. So, I'm Jimmy Chang and that's the definition of an "unreal number".
